American Internet Companies Stand By Rigid Web Management
Internet service providers across the United States are exploring various ways to regulate bandwidth usage and manage traffic on their networks. Several public interest groups expressed their concerns on the strict efforts of ISPs to manage Intenet traffic. However, ISPs claim they need to take on a much controlled network management due to a swelling bandwidth usage by consumers.Bob Quinn, senior vice president for regulatory policy at AT&T, said, "In the future we are going to get into applications like real time video that are going to require some sort of management. Management is going to absolutely be required."
Network management became an issue last year following a complaint filed against Comcast to the FCC concerning a violation of open-Internet policy. The FCC has a standing order against network traffic discrimination. However, various groups came up against such policies and asked for a legislation that would support such move. Consumer groups also cried foul over the much hyped decision to regulate bandwidth.
