CCF Ditches Internet Restriction Regulation
CCF Ditches Internet Restriction Regulation
The Constitutional Council of France has stonewalled the legislation that would have restricted illegal downloaders from the internet for a maximum of one year after a third offense.According to the CCF, "free access to public communication services online" is a right of every individual. This contradicted the French minister of cultural affairs and communications Christine Albanel who argued, "No right is unconditional. It must be reconciled with other forms of freedom and cannot be invoked to violate the law."
The CCF's ruling will rebuff French president Nicholas Sarckozy's stand on the controversial legislation. Sarkozy already gave his approval despite the continued debate among European Union members regarding the policy. The European Parliament remains opposed to the plans.
