Social networking site Facebook has patched a code error that accidentally handed administrative access to a user. The error allowed Tom Krieglstein, founder of a technology training firm Swift Kick, to control 17 Facebook pages owned by Microsoft, Soutwest Airlines and American Airlines. A page dedicated to Star Wars movie was also exposed, allowing Krieglstein to communicate with its 825,000 fans.

Researchers have released a free detection service designed for Conficker which enables IT departments to remotely scan their network for possible Conficker attack. The tool distinguishes compuer systems infected by the fast-growing worm. It was built by Honeynet Project, a non-profit research group, with the assistance of security research Dan Kaminsky.
Researchers based at the Munk Center for International Studies at the University of Toronto claim they have uncovered a massive network operated by cyber-spooks. The network, also known as Ghost Net, is ran in China and has already breached 1,295 computers across 103 countries.
Ebay has recently launched a bespoke version of Internet Explorer 8 available to all Ebay bidders except those residing in the UK. The bespoke browser will not be available in ebay.co.uk, although the company guarantees the feature will be offered in the UK next week.
Based on a survey conducted by IT specialist firm SITA, around 75 percent of airlines are seriously monitoring IT security. The survey showed that majority of airlines are keeping a large chunk of their budget to maintain IT security.

With Easter fast approaching, cybercriminals have found a new disguise for their malicious sites. According to a security researcher from Symanctec, search engines are now starting to display noxious sites related to Easter.
The European Commission has introduced a new scheme, designed to work in case of attacks on its major cyber infrastructures. The commission said the strategy should protect the European economy as it primarily uses electronic communication services and networks. It banks on the Strategy for a Secure Information Society (PDF) which was built by EC three years back.
Based on a recent report from Gartner, around 66 percent of companies in the UK are now using software-as-a-service or SaaS. Gartner conducted a survey by which 68 percent of the respondents affirmed their company is using SaaS enterprise applications. Firms in France and Germany accounted to 71 percent and 45 percent respectively.
